How you treat other people is a reflection of how you want to be treated in return. No Christians tolerate disrespect, rudeness, insensitivity, and fury. All those behaviors are sinful acts and are condemned by the Lord. Your treatment towards other people must be a mirror of what God wants you to portray. Being nice won’t cause you a single penny for all acts of righteousness that are free and gratuitous.
However, realistically speaking, all humans are inclined to commit a sin and can happen to harm and hurt one another beyond one’s control. Regardless, what truly matters is the will to forgive one another as God has forgiven you from your sins. Matthew 6:14-15 declares, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” You must forgive those who have wronged you not solely because you fear not being forgiven in return, but because you wholeheartedly believe that they just need God within them and holding a grudge is unnecessary.
Your treatment towards other people can be influenced by how they treat you as well. But God wants you to always have a forgiving heart and an understanding mind that would guide you from hurting them back.
As hard as it may seem to love a person that is far from your liking, a person of Christ who embodies Christian living will remove all the barriers that’s stopping him from connecting. God stated in Matthew 5: 43-45, “Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
When people hit you with bad accusations, false stories, misguided criticism, and unwarranted judgements, do not fuel their fire and treat them with the same intensity; pray for them instead and let the Lord enlighten their dark minds and soul. You can only hope that they may accept God within them and change their evil deeds.
Your treatment of your neighbors and friends must only depend on what God wants you to do with them, not based on your emotions or rage. Sometimes, your feelings may deceive and blur your rationality from thinking straight, which may cause you to do inappropriate things.
People have different personalities because each one has been shaped according to their environment. However, as they begin to realize God’s Holiness inside their hearts, every individual will begin to act the same and think similarly. It is important for a Christian follower to treat people with respect regardless of their age and maturity level. You may have different viewpoints compared to some, but never forget to bring your manners with you and acknowledge what you can do to straighten their twisted thoughts. Treat everyone as if they are your siblings and parents.
God declared in 1 Timothy 5:1-2, “Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but extort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.” Be transparent when it comes to your treatments towards them for God sees through your intentions and what your mind conjures.
Speak when you aim to educate others, not humiliate them. Build other people with weak faith and belief in God. Ephesians 4:29 affirms, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out from your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Be an instrument of wisdom and understanding for them to see the love that God has for everyone.
Make it a habit to voice out at the thought of making the listeners learn something from you about Christian teachings and knowledge. Open your mouth to speak and encourage others to embody the goodness and righteousness that you ought to share to them.
Do things according to God’s will and you will see for yourself how your treatment towards other people is changing. The more you absorb His words, the more you can adjust your behavioral aspects and change your wicked ways. God doesn’t want you to be perfect in everything, He just wants you to be kind, empathetic, virtuous and full of wisdom. Above all, He wants you to be a person of faith who believes that He is your Father and through Him, you can be holy.
