And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham. Hebrews 7:9, KJV

In Hebrews 7:9, we see that everyone, even Levi, who is receiving the tithes, is obligated to give. Giving tithes is something that many Christians don't understand. It is not just a way to donate time or money to the church; it is a joy of giving back to God. In many churches, giving tithes is too stressed. Pastors are basically demanding money from people. On the other hand, many Christians refuse to obey the Bible's command to give back to the Lord. From my point of view, everything I have is God's. If it weren't for God's grace, I would have nothing. For me, giving is a joy, a blessing. Sadly, it is a rarity in the church today.

Some Christians think that giving tithes is an Old Testament concept. The tithe was required according to the law. All Israelites were to give 10% of all that they earned and cultivated, the Tent of Meeting / Temple. Many verses support this, for example, Genesis 27:30, 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; Second Diary 31: 5, etc. In the Old Testament as a way of taxation to ensure the needs of the clergy and Levites for the sacral system. The New Testament nowhere commands or even recommends, that Christians submit to a legalistic giving. Paul in the first Chorintians states that believers should donate a portion of their income to support the church.

Examples of giving tithes

Giving tithes is an accepted practice throughout Scripture. For example, in Genesis 14:20, Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything. In doing so, he acknowledged Melchizedek's ministry and showed that he was well acquainted with this holy institution. This random data on giving donations shows that this was already an established practice from the beginning. 

Another example in the Bible is Jakov who also understood the request to give a tithe. In Genesis 28:22, we see that as an exile and a fugitive, he made a solemn commitment to the Lord. After the Exodus, God reaffirmed the law of tithing as the divine institution on which Israel's progress depended. Far from abolishing this institution, the New Testament adopts its importance. Even Jesus himself affirmed the tithe and condemned those who violated his spirit.  Since Abraham is the father of all believers, he is a role model for Christians in giving tithes. Just as Abraham donated Melchizedek, we donate to Christ. 

The use of tens in the Bible

The donation that the church receives are sacred and should be used carefully. The tithe was used in Israel exclusively to support the Levites. They received no tribal part of the land. And they were to use all their time to cultivate worship in Israel, to serve in the sanctuary. The most important role was to teach the people the law of God.

After the crucifixion, when the God-directed role of the Levitical priestly ministry ended. However, we are been asked to donate, and our donations were still to be used to support the ministry of God's church. The apostle Paul illustrated the principle underlying it by drawing a parallel between the Levitical ministry and the newly established evangelical ministry. The believers of the church willingly donate their food, time, money, and other goods. A believer can never give too much to God; more giving has more income for possession. God promises that the believer can count on. The law of Moses did not prescribe any punishment for anyone who failed to give a tithe. It was a moral obligation. The Israelites were expected to declare before God that they had donated a tithe and to ask for a blessing.

From the fund, in my opinion, salaries for preachers and pensions for former preachers should not be paid from donations. People donate for a specific reasion. This could not be called the best practice. I also believe that funds from one fund should not be transferred to another. Each check should record who gave it and for what purpose and issue receipts for each donation.

Not the law, but love and mercy 

The income of the community comes when someone donates to the local church. The principle by which giving is organized is in the form of giving tithes. Material resources for the needs of the Church of God are obtained from: voluntary contributions and members of the Church; various gifts or bequests; eventual income of church property, state aid; help of other churches from the country and abroad, friends of the Church of God. The community performs all services to the faithful voluntarily. 

The Lord rightly demands that we donate back one part to Him in the form of ten and gifts goods, which he gave us for use. He accepts these contributions as a humble act of our obedience and grateful acknowledgment of obligation to Him for all blessings which we enjoy. Therefore, we should gladly donate it all, speaking in our hearts. There must be a willingness to do more than just give a dozen mint, dill, and cumin; what is more predominant in the law - the court, must not be neglected, grace and love of God; for the personal character of every employee in the work of God leaves his imprint on what he did.

Paul fought fiercely against all legalistic approaches to salvation. Neither the tithe, nor the Sunday Lord's Supper, nor the church system, no matter how useful these things may be in our Christian experience, constitute the "law of Christ." It is love and faith alone. I want to encourage you to start with love and hope. Start small. Start with a dollar and a portion of your time. And see how God works in your life!
