In other translations of this verse, we have those who claim that they remain in union with God live just as Jesus Christ did. Or a newer translation says that those who claim to belong to the Lord live just as Jesus did. The message in every version of this verse is the same, those who claim to abide in Him must walk just as He walked.
But who can we know to live in communion and to stand in Him? How are we obliged to live as Jesus lived? The first association of Jesus should be endless love. To walked the walk of Jesus is to walk in love. For instance, the Bible also shows us that faith works by love. Another emphasis is on true faith in the right way of life. Faith is not just a decision made once but a persistent one and personal relationship with Jesus, a relationship seen in the fruits of Christlike daily life.
The goal of Christianity is not heaven — one fine day — but Christ's way of life here and now! That is our mission. It corresponds to Christ's mission of mission. He laid down His life for the salvation of all, and we lay down our lives to serve all (See John 3:16). We have a clear message here. First Corinthians chapter 13 depicts a perfect understanding of how love behaves. It is patient and kind, and it's not jealous or proud. Love breaths through all things. We who claim that we are Christ's should be filled with love, and then we can walk His path.
If we look it up in any dictionary, the word claim can mean demand as a right or a right to demand. So, in verse above, we have to demand the right to call ourselves Christs. And once we claim that we are Christ, we have to live the life as He lived, walk as He walked. So now the rest of our Christian life is contained in walking the path, with hearts overflowing, in love, and living in complete union with Jesus. Take your right to walk Jesus' path, and claim you are His. The key is walking in the spirit and overcoming the flesh. When you read the Word of God or pray, the Lord will tell you what to do. The Holy Spirit will fill your heart with love and your mind with peace. Love is the first command Jesus gave us and the most significant.
The walk of love is the power of change. Start loving the people around you, especially those who are difficult to be loved. Put this commandment in action. Give the love to the people as Jesus did. Then you can walk in His shoes and be able to claim you are His. He's given you the ability and commandment to live in peace and love, helping others, live in unity with the Father, and so more. Once you realize that, you will start acting like it. You will begin to love as Jesus wants you to do. And all the people around you will finally start to see Jesus in you. You will be His, and He will be yours. Amazing!
One of the most important points that have not yet been mentioned is that we do not walk the path alone. And others walk it with us. There is, of course, the Lord Jesus and all the people that we interact. But there are other travelers as well, and the rule of the way is that fellowship with them is as significant as fellowship with Jesus. Indeed, the two are closely related. Our solidarity with the people around us and our fellowship with God is so connected that we cannot disrupt one without disrupting the other. Some people say, "I don't have time to serve the people because I am serving the Lord." It is wrong on so many levels to say that. The Lord itself always puts humankind first.
Everything between us and others, such as impatience, resentment, or envy, is also between God and us. These obstacles are sometimes nothing more than veils, veils through which we can still, to some extent, see. But if they are not removed immediately, they thicken into coverings and then into brick walls, and we are close to both God and our neighbors, close to ourselves. It is clear why these two relationships need to be so connected.
"God is love," love for others, and the moment we have no love for another we put ourselves out of fellowship with God because God loves him, even if we don't.
The way back to fellowship with the Lord Jesus will also take us back into fellowship with our brother. Therefore, the way of life is the way Jesus walked, and it is the way of love. This is not a new confusing doctrine. It’s completely unspectacular. It is just a life lived in love day by day in whatever circumstances the Lord has placed us in. Starting to live this life in love means awakening in our lives. Let's start today with a prayer. We can start by claiming that we belong to Jesus and pray that the Holy Spirit takes us to the right path.
Continue to live life as Jesus lived, and the awakening will continue. Rebirth is just you and me walking together on the path in complete union with the Lord Jesus and with one another, with love that is constantly purified and overflowing with the life and love of God. Although that path is narrow and steep, it is still the most beautiful path in the world, and there is nothing better than claiming to belong to God and walk with Him.
