The author of the Corinthians Epistle tells us that we need to have the Holy Spirit in us. If we are sincere and faithful in faith and acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as our God and Savior, then we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. Only then a person becomes a spiritual man by the Holy Spirit. For holy life is living in the gospel virtues: faith, love, hope, prayer, fasting, justice, meekness, patience, humility, truth, and others. The Holy Spirit unites the spiritual man with the Lord Christ, and he becomes one spirit with the Lord, and his body becomes a temple in which the Holy Spirit lives. According to the God-wise word of the spiritual apostle whoever joins the Lord became one spirit with Him. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in you when you have from God, and you are not your own?
It is natural with God-man naturalness, who is one spirit with the Lord, he is also one mind with Him, one thought, one soul, one life. The Holy Spirit does all this in us: what Christ transforms into ours, he transforms the gifts of Christ into ours. We all already know that this verse refers to consecrating one's life to a bodily immaculate life and not giving oneself to earthly vices and sinful pleasures. But rarely does anyone realize that this verse also means the commandment to treat one's body soundly. Taking care of your body is a spiritual discipline such as prayer, praising God, studying the teachings of Christ. God would surely want you to be successful in this discipline as well. When you are careful with your body, you are praising God, and it is never too late to start this discipline as well.
Whatever kind of sport we can do and which we can't, there is no single opinion. However, practically, sports disciplines such as aerobics, fitness, dancing, swimming, and the like are always welcome. Fitness, as well as various sports, is not harmful and does not contradict Christian morality if it serves to strengthen the body and vital functions. Engaging in physical culture is just as important as engaging in spiritual culture. It is pleasing to God to unite spiritually and physically in one man. Research shows that the result of the sport depends on the combination of physical skills and the psychological state of mind. For believers, the two are intertwined, which means that faith could really improve the result of sports.
Saint Alexis (Mechev) also advised his spiritual children to do physical exercises. He recommended them to do gymnastics and fitness to fight idleness. "Some modern laypeople," the saint wrote, "will not even hear about physical education." If It makes our body a temple of the Holy Spirit we need to take care of it. Like physical fitness, spiritual fitness does not happen by itself. It takes effort and regular practice in the spiritual areas of your tradition. The ability to suffer pain, suffering, and loss is the basis of spiritual fitness. People whose faith improves results are convinced that every temptation only strengthens their faith; therefore, every time they lose become better.
The good maintenance of your body is not to live longer or to look more attractive. Maintaining your health is primarily the way to keep your soul healthy and to glorify God. When Jesus came to this world, He eliminated the need to find the temple in one place. His temples were believers and His followers. Because of His blood, which has made us pure, we can know that we have been ordained and lived, and the Spirit of the Living lives in us. Since God chooses to be in us, we have to keep our bodies healthy for Him. Christians should refrain from what can defile their temple. Since Christ gave us these bodies as a temporary gift, we should honor him with them. This means that we should avoid anything that might tempt us to defile them. Once we remove them, we can draw even closer to Christ, roaring all day to Him.
Maintaining good health is one of the ways we treat God's temple well. You would never allow your church to be in poor condition and neglected. In the same way, God wants you to take care of your body. Even if you think you don't have time for an aerobic or a fitness class try to rearrange a few things in your busy schedule and join them. Maybe you can even make a sports team for men in the church and fitness class for women. When you understand these truths of God about your body well, you will have more respect and caution towards it because you will better understand that it was given to you by God for use.
Summarizing the results of all the above we can conclude that Christians can and should engage in fitness or other sports for the Glory of God. It is said in the Holy Scriptures "And so, whether you eat or drink, or do something else, do everything for the Glory of God." Well, if our goal is education, that is, the health of our soul, among other things through physical exertion, then that inner landmark will not allow us to slip from the right path. Start your exercise today, made God proud!
