The Great Mind of Astrology: Dane Rudhyar
This article provides a bibliographic list of the major works and highlights the thinker’s most significant and numerous contributions. Some books, like those written by any prolific thinker, stand out more than others, and these books will be identified. Some tasks are practical and others are theoretical, depending on whether you are practicing or not. astrology or merely research.
2020 Scorpio-Libra compatibility Dane Rudhyar is our first guest in this series.
Dane Rudhyar was born Daniel Chennevière on March 23, 1895, and passed away on September 13, 1985. He was an American author, modernist composer, and humanistic astrologer who was born in France. He set the standard for contemporary transpersonal astrology. An excellent and brief biography can be found on the NS Wikipedia page.
The following are a few significant occurrences in his personal history that were significant to astrology in the 20th century. Century NS:
Rudhyar began to consider combining Jung’s psychology and astrology after learning astrology from Carl G. Jung’s writings on psychology.
The fundamental issues of astrology’s deterministic approach to life and the difficulty of specifying agreeable agents to generate astrological effects were both resolved when deep psychology and astrology were combined. Rudhyar hypothesized that the stars were images that were aligned with humans at the same time without having any effect on human life.
He asserted that while they described the psychological forces at work on an individual, they did not disregard human freedom to combat those forces. He initially referred to his new interpretation as harmonic astrology, but as the concept developed, he renamed it humanistic astrology, which became the subject of his seminal 1936 book The Astrology of Personality.
Rudhyar continued to write about astrology and give lectures for the following two decades. However, despite the fact that he was well-liked outside of the astrological community, he was respected within it. Major publishers did not discover him and begin publishing his work until the New Age movement in the 1970s. Practice of Astrology, which Penguin Books published in 1970, was the first of these.
still relevant today In many ways, Rudhyar and his contemporaries, Robert Hand, Jeff Green, Demeter George, and Stephen Arroyo, helped bring astrology into the mainstream of modern psychology and make it useful. In contrast to Alan Leona’s and CEO Carter’s writings, his humanistic perspective prevents his writings from being constrained by the time period in which he lived. The culture and history of an era are not relevant to good academic writing, or nearly so. Through his writings, Rudhyar was able to accomplish this feat.
Because he did not write for the general psychology reader or make astrology easy to read, much of his work is short, to the point, and scholarly. His writing is nicely summarized on the wiki page.
Astrology and spirituality make up the majority of Rudhyar’s over forty books and hundreds of articles. His first book, Astrology of Personality (1936), established his reputation in the astrological community. Astrology of Personality is one of the most influential tracts of free will astrology, arguing that astrology is not inherently predictive but produces intuitive insights despite being written in the dense, circular style that characterized a lot of Rudhyar’s writing. His understanding of why astrology was needed and how it was used would be similar to the changes that the Catholic Church underwent during the Reformation in the 1500s and 1600s.
Again, the wiki page provides a comprehensive bibliography in case you are interested in reading his writings on his fiction novels or music. Four Essential Books to Start Studying Astrology The following are books that you should own and read about astrology.

Understanding your personality depends on knowing how to interpret the moon’s various phases, especially in your progress chart.
Additionally, the Houses of the Sun: Regarding the Houses of the Zodiac, Spectrum of Individual Experience is a great article. It is a book that gives a glimpse of his time, but the most important information is very useful.
Last but not least, we consider people-centered astrology to be the best. This book, which came out 36 years after Astrology of Personality, brought the core of his ideas and works to maturity: a rethinking of astrological ideas and concepts in light of current psychology and philosophy.
